International development agencies are increasingly called on to demonstrate their contribution to results on the ground. They must show taxpayers, borrowers and recipients how aid resources are used to move people out of poverty.
In 2009, the financial crisis was threatening to undermine donor funding for development and jeopardize aid for the poorest countries. The African Development Bank (AfDB) recognized that it had a very urgent need to show results in order to ensure continued support for its African Development Fund (AFD).
In order to show how ADF-funded projects had improved the lives of Africans in very tangible ways, the AfDB commissioned me to conceptualize and produce visual communication products that could be used to mobilize new resources for the ADF.
